SpeedLines

SpeedLines [ComicStyle]

SpeedLines is an effect plugin for Adobe After Effects that reproduces "speed lines", effect lines that give a sense of speed on the screen.

It provides various shapes and animations that go beyond the usual representation of speed lines.

Main Features of SpeedLines

  • Handle various shapes and animations using rich parameters.
  • Handle line grouping with grouping parameters.
  • Create more natural shapes with random parameters.
  • Express depth with the taper function.
  • Animate without keyframes using the Auto Offset function.
  • Add the appearance of pen pressure to the lines with the In/Out function.
  • Add Wave effects to the lines. ver 1.5
  • Randomize the line colors. ver 1.5

Main Functionality

Base Line Drawing

Basic line drawing
Set the basic characteristics of the lines such as color, length, thickness, tapering, and line density over the whole screen.

Grouping

Grouping
Group the lines and set the number of lines per group, the line attraction, and the distance between groups.

Randomization and Tapering

Randomization and tapering
Many parameters can be set to random values, allowing you to draw speed lines with more natural shapes. The taper function is ideal for creating speed lines that match screen depth.

New in Version 1.5 New

New in Version 1.5
New features have been added, such as the ability to deform lines into waves and color randomization, allowing for new expressions.

Sample Videos

Basic Speed Lines

A sample of basic speed lines and parallel lines seen in games and anime.
Random Interval is used to alternate lines instantly at specified frame intervals.
Ideal for comical videos.

New Speed Lines

A sample of speed lines where the lines move smoothly and naturally.
This is effective for CG and live-action videos with smooth movement.

Taper & Wave version 1.5

A sample that uses Taper and Wave.
Unlike the standard distortion effects in After Effects, the pixels are not squashed or stretched, and you can draw sharp and smooth curves.

Rain

A sample used to represent rain. The Auto Offset function automatically moves the raindrops. By using Random Interval, it is also possible to create a rain-like effect with "cel damage". Since the line In/Out function can be used to create teardrop-shaped raindrops, it is possible to create a rough and impressive rain effect.

Hatching

A sample where a stylistic touch was added using hatching. Cross hatching is added to the shadow areas rendered by 3D software.

Printing Style Sample

A sample file that reproduces the texture of printed lines found in manga and comic books. It uses all the plugins included in ComicStyle.

Sample preset where the distance between Start Point and End Point is automatically assigned to Length using expressions. Except for Length and the Repeat checkbox, the parameters are left at their default values.

SPL_RepeatInterval
decided by SP-EP.ffx

Sample preset where Length is subtracted from the length of Start Point and End Point and that value is assigned to Repeat Interval using expressions. Except for Repeat Interval and the Repeat checkbox, the parameters are left at their default values.

EXP = Parameters affected by the resolution are automatically set by expressions.
