More flexible line editing

PSOFT® Pencil+® 4 Line for After Effects® is an effects plugin that makes it possible to edit Pencil+ 4 Lines in After Effects using PLD files exported from Pencil+ 4*1.

You can edit lines using the same parameters and with the exact same quality as Pencil+ 4 Lines for 3D software. This is made possible by Pencil+ 4 Line, reborn as a high-speed rendering engine.

*1 As of July 2023, PLD output is available in Pencil+ 4 for 3ds Max, Pencil+ 4 for Maya, and Pencil+ 4 Line for Blender.

New Workflow Available

Until now, if you wanted to change the thickness or color of lines, you had to change the settings in the 3D software and re-render. With Pencil+ 4 Line for After Effects, you can now edit lines directly in After Effects. This way, you can limit the rendering work in 3D software to the minimum.

Furthermore, it becomes easy to perform tasks that are time-consuming to execute in 3D software, such as animating parameters or changing line color or thickness for each cut. By being able to make fine adjustments to lines in the compositing process, you can now create even higher-quality images.

Main Features

In addition to the Pencil+ 4 Line functionality, the After Effects version includes features to enhance expressiveness.

  • Edit Lines using the same parameters as the ones for Pencil+ 4 Line in 3D software.
  • Edit all or specific line sets.
  • Provides the Offset mode to fine-tune Lines set in 3D software and the Replace mode to re-set Lines from scratch in After Effects.
  • Edit Line thickness and opacity intuitively on the camera screen by using Screen Effect.
  • Scale Lines up or down without degrading the image quality by using Rendering Scale.
  • Expressions that were not possible with 3D software become possible by using Map Layers.
  • Draw Line depth using Z Depth.
  • Use 3D layers as Refer Objects.
